Terra Java, Arcadia Neighborhood, Phoenix AZ

Terra Java, Phoenix AZ

Thanks to my mom’s gift of gab, I got the chance to chat with Omea Eaglerider, co-owner of this community gathering place in Central Phoenix.

Omea is a chef-turned-coffeehouse-owner.  She had been leasing the kitchen in this coffeehouse, formerly Mama Java’s for eighteen months.   Mama Java’s had been in business for eight years, but due to personal issues the owner needed to close the business.  He turned to Omea, and a year ago offered her the opportunity to takeover the business.

Within 48 hours she said YES and combined her catering company “Terra Bites” with Mama Java’s creating “Terra Java Coffee House” where she can sell her world-themed foods to her coffee customers every day.

Coffee choice:  They sell coffee varieties from Passport Coffee, roasted locally in the Scottsdale Airpark.  Also offered are many other local and healthy food options.

Barista LOVE!  They just sent one of their baristas to an international competition.  I love it when owners support their employee’s passions, too.

Lovin’ the local flavor of Arizona!

The Desk, Capitol Hill Neighborhood, Denver Colorado

I watched in anticipation as the older building near the capitol was being remodeled.  Most notable was the sign painted on the side of the old brick wall facing Grant Street.

The simplicity of it captured my attention … very mysterious. Soooo I went to the website to see if this was going to be a writer’s haven-type coffeehouse.  No information.  I was devastated at the time.

The mystery was solved last week.  I scheduled to meet my web developer there for a meeting and it was brilliantly designed and meticulously planned for writers, developers, students.  For those people that need to focus for long periods of time in a cool environment.

Front of the house is a coffeehouse with tables, chairs, wifi, and a bubbly water fountain (awesomeness).

Back of the house contains small offices, a conference room, a very loooong table with lots of outlets for computers and other electronic paraphernalia.  There is a fee for this area; by the hour or with a monthly membership.

This coop workspace AND coffeehouse rules in my book!

A new coffeehouse in Denver! Strange Grounds on South Broadway

You gotta stop in here and say hello!  They are right in my old hood.

A post in Yelp by John S. was really fun!  He said,

My parrot and I accidentally took a wrong turn on the bike and ended up going south on Broadway from downtown Denver and I ran smack dab into Strange Grounds, with a large conspicuously bold claim as a seller of coffee!  So I poked my head in and instantly said to myself, “This is a cool coffee shop.  This is where I want to hang out!”

Beans & Sweets Coffee Stop and Bakery in Las Vegas NM (#Coffeehouse)

Char was our barista.  She works for her sister at Beans & Sweets in downtown Las Vegas, NM about 4 miles off I-25.

You can see she enjoys her work, but her passion lies in the sweets.  She bakes all of the goodies in the window right there on site.  We found ourselves buying one scrumptious goody after another.  First a peanut butter cookie, then a baby loaf of banana bread landed in my bag, and can you believe we also bought a brownie and a chocolate covered peanut butter ball. I can’t remember what she called it, but it was ALL to-die-for!!

They  just repainted this little spot and had to shut it down for several days, but after being part of the community for so many years it didn’t effect business one iota.

By the Old Oak Tree ~ Grassroots Coffee in Thomasville, GA

Bags of beans were piled high in the corner awaiting roasting.  The fresh scones in the pastry case were ready to please the pallet of the next taker.  The space was inviting and I was greeted with a friendly smile and could tell in an instant that these folks were passionate about their business.

They are two years in, and are already making an impact in their community by offering a roast that has been specially selected to meet the expectations of their demographic that is sweet, rich and not bitter.

If I understand correctly, they are participating in a gathering of Southern roasters in a couple of weeks to share and collaborate.  To find out more contact them at Grassroots Coffee.

Dig it!
